Instacart Software Engineer interview experience

RemoteCandidate report, summarized by Dataford

I only had a quick phone screen, and it centered on standard algorithm and data structure style questions.

The interaction felt like a typical live problem-solving session rather than a deep dive into system design.

I remember having to think in terms of data structures from the start and then make adjustments as the questions evolved. The overall tone was practical and focused on whether I could reason clearly in a short time window.

Even though I didn’t go past the phone screen in my experience, it left me with a clear sense that this first step was meant to test baseline fundamentals quickly.
