Instacart Software Engineer interview experience

Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

My phone interview was straightforward in structure: it started with one main problem and then split into two follow-up requirements.

The format was very question-driven, and after I got through the initial prompt, the interviewer kept extending it by layering on additional constraints. It felt like the key wasn’t just solving the first part, but staying flexible while updating how the solution should work.

Because it was only a phone screen, it moved quickly and stayed focused on the interactive problem-solving.

I don’t remember it being overly brutal, but I did feel the pressure of having to adapt my approach twice after the first answer.
