My interview path was organized around meeting several people sequentially, with a similar focus on fit and motivation—but one experience included a noticeable lack of coordination about who would interview me.

Series of one-on-one manager interviews — I met department managers in succession; each person needed to be satisfied to progress.
Head of office (final stakeholder) — Ended with a higher-level leader/Head of the office.
Motivation/beliefs and alignment — In a parallel version of this path, I sat with multiple individuals where they probed motivation, personal beliefs, and what drove me.
Director-level follow-up (with a curveball) — In one case, I was expecting a director but instead met senior consultants first, with explanations later that the director was on leave
