I interviewed for a Software Engineer role with average difficulty where the evaluation emphasized enterprise IT and infrastructure depth (not just app coding), and I didn’t receive an offer.

Technical-heavy discussion of infrastructure stack — I needed an in-depth understanding spanning networking, OS concepts, Windows/RHEL, wireless networking, storage/backups, and SAN concepts, along with how OSI layers relate.
Multi-step process with clearance requirements — I also went through multiple interviews (including phone and face-to-face) where a clearance and strong Windows/Linux/networking skills mattered, along with VM and AWS/cloud familiarity. Outcome: No offer; the bar was broad infrastructure coverage and related experience.
