CanadaPosted Mar 2024 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

I interviewed for a Software Engineer role where I reviewed and improved a merge request before the coding discussion, and the technical interviewer barely asked questions while I coded.

Pre-interview MR review — two days before, I received a merge request to review (Vue 2 app with an API call and UI logic).
Technical interview (MR) + live coding — I explained decisions while coding; I improved performance via caching, reduced unnecessary API calls, and handled responsive HTML/CSS.
Limited interactive questioning — I noticed the interviewer didn’t ask many questions during coding.

Outcome: No offer; I didn’t understand why I wasn’t advanced after a strong preparation effort.
