I experienced a fairly structured, handbook-aligned process that started strong but ended with ambiguity at the manager level.

Recruiter screen — I had an initial screening covering my background and the role.
Take-home assessment — I completed a relatively simple assignment focused on a code review.
Technical interview — I discussed my work and verbalized my thinking clearly; I felt I performed well.
Hiring manager / team fit — The manager stage lacked clarity about team remit, priorities, and direction, which made the round feel like an inefficient use of my time. Outcome: I was rejected; starting with clear steps helped, but unclear ownership at the manager stage undermined the outcome.
