I went through a fairly rigorous HR-to-department pipeline with compensation discussions and a final decision step, moving at a steady pace.

Talent/HR phone screen — I had a ~25-minute phone call covering experience, expectations, availability, wage range, and my questions.
Head of Department online meeting — I then met the head of department; the discussion included company context, a target project overview (without client details), experience/expectations, availability, and compensation.
Final decision — The process ended with a decision step.

Outcome: I didn’t receive an offer; the process was thorough, but the final decision went against me.
