Interviewing at Zscaler
What the process looks like, and what Zscaler is really testing for.
Zscaler interviews you through multiple gates that combine recruiter screening, technical assessments, and role-specific interviews. Across roles, the process includes recruiter and hiring manager conversations, online assessments or coding tests, and then additional peer or panel style discussions that test both execution and communication.
What stands out in the question data is the mix of core technical depth and communication. The most prominent topics include Computer Networks, Coding, Data Structures and Algorithms, Solutions Architecture, and Application Security, and project management and business analysis also appear at very high prominence. Python and SQL show up heavily, with Dynamic Programming also prominent, and Network Security appears alongside Application Security.
Based on candidate reports, the experience can be structured and predictable, but communication quality varies. Some candidates describe clear progression and consistent scheduling, while others report limited feedback after rounds and difficulty around logistics. The offer rate in the aggregated candidate data is 1.5%, and the difficulty distribution skews to medium and hard.
You are tested on both technical fundamentals and how you communicate decisions, especially in networking, security, and architecture contexts, because those topics are among the most prominent and the process repeatedly includes structured interviews plus scenario or presentation style rounds.
The Zscaler interview process
6 stages, based on 534 candidate reports.
Recruiter Screen
Short screening callYou go through an initial conversation to assess basic qualifications, alignment with the role, and baseline cultural fit. Prep to clearly explain your background relative to the role and why you are a match.
Hiring Manager Interview
1-2 interviewsYou meet with a hiring manager to go deeper on fit for the team and your experience. Reports mention discussion of strategies and role-centered technical questions, and also experience managing escalations or customer-related scenarios for relevant roles.

Online or live screeningThis stage can include an aptitude test, a HackerRank style online test, or an interview with senior escalation engineers. You should expect evaluation of data structures, algorithms, SQL queries, and networking fundamentals with scenario based troubleshooting.
Online Assessment
Single assessmentYou may complete a challenging HackerRank or HackerEarth style assessment covering CS fundamentals and coding. The assessment can also include objective networking questions, meant to filter for strong analytical and coding skills.
Peer Interviews and Technical Rounds
Multiple interviewsYou may complete up to five individual 45 minute peer interviews that cover technical skills and behavioral scenarios. Separate technical rounds can include in depth interviews with live coding or whiteboarding, plus discussions of past projects.
Panel Interview or Panel Presentation, plus Leadership Discussion (where applicable)
Final stagesSome roles include a panel interview with a complex case study, and others include a panel presentation such as a mock QBR or technology proposal. A leadership discussion with engineering leadership may appear for some roles to evaluate architectural vision and cultural alignment.
