My interview experience was wrapped up as part of an unusually long job search. I’d been going through the process from around November 2025 to May 2026 after getting laid off from Oracle, where I’d been working as an SMTS (IC3). Over those months, I kept moving forward through applications and conversations until it finally ended with an offer from Zscaler.
The role that came together at the end was Staff Software Engineer, and I accepted it and was set to start the following week. Looking back, the hardest part wasn’t any single technical moment I can point to—it was the sustained uncertainty across the whole stretch of time. Getting to an offer after months of effort still felt like a real relief, and also a reminder of how much patience the process demanded, even when I felt my experience matched what I was applying for.

I applied for the Staff/Senior Staff SDE track and ended up getting an offer after the usual mix of outreach and direct applications. I’d been applying through referrals while also submitting on Zscaler’s portal, and a recruiter reached out as things progressed.
The timeline I saw clustered around May 2026, and the process culminated in an offer for Senior Staff SDE / Staff-level work. What stood out most to me was how clearly tied the final decision felt to my background, especially since I’d been coming in with roughly 8.5+ years and a recent role at Oracle as an SMTS (IC3).
