Interviewing at Phonepe
What the process looks like, and what Phonepe is really testing for.
Phonepe interviews are heavily technical and assessment-driven. Across the reported steps, you should expect SQL and Linux to show up very prominently, and you will also be tested on DSA and design, not just one-off coding questions.
The question topics indicate a consistent emphasis on hands-on problem solving and implementation. You will likely be evaluated on SQL, SQL querying, JavaScript, Java, Data Structures and Algorithms, high-level design, data interpretation, debugging, and core problem-solving, plus communication skills that show up alongside technical work.
The process loop you will experience includes online assessment plus multiple technical rounds, with at least one hiring manager or managerial discussion and, for some paths, additional platform or leadership discussions. Based on aggregated candidate reports, the overall offer rate is 0.9%, with a difficulty mix skewing to medium (53.2%) and hard (31.5%), and very hard (2.8%).
SQL is the most consistently prominent topic in their extracted question data, alongside Linux and DSA, so you should prioritize getting comfortable writing correct SQL under time pressure and explaining your approach clearly when asked follow-ups.
The Phonepe interview process
4 stages, based on 541 candidate reports.
Online Assessment
About 1-2 hours (examples range from 90 minutes to about 1 hour)You complete an online assessment focused on aptitude, logical reasoning, and basic technical skills. The extracted topics emphasize DSA and SQL, and candidate reports describe timed coding challenges and a mix of easy to hard questions.
Technical Rounds (including machine coding and SQL/Linus checks)
Multiple rounds, typically 1.5 hours per technical interview in reported examplesYou go through technical interviews that include live SQL coding, hands-on coding, and interactive troubleshooting. Candidate reports describe machine coding rounds where you implement a functional solution, sometimes with additional focus like system behavior and concurrency in follow-ups.
Hiring Manager or Managerial Discussion
Single roundYou meet a hiring manager and discuss fit, past projects, and software delivery understanding. Candidate reports also mention that managerial discussions can include systems design and team-fit style questions.
Additional Final Rounds (if applicable)
One or more additional roundsSome candidates report final managerial or leadership-style discussions after the hiring-manager stage. The extracted process also includes final discussions with senior executives for culture alignment in at least some paths.
