Winnipeg, MBPosted Sep 2024 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

I interviewed for Yelp Software Engineer and found the process frustrating mainly due to generic tests and a confusing mistake during a live coding round.

Asynchronous HackerRank (1 hour) — a timed coding test.
Manager call — I spoke with a manager to answer additional questions.
4-hour final interview — a long final stage after passing earlier steps.
Technical rounds — two rounds including system design and behavioral. Outcome: I didn’t get an offer and received a generic rejection; one interview contained a problem-condition mistake that wasn’t properly acknowledged, and the questions felt not aligned to day-to-day work.
