I went through an early-stage interview path that leaned on networking and practical coordination, including remote conversations for international logistics.

Application + referral / networking — I applied through my university with support from a referral, and I was told networking plays a major role for getting a chance.
Remote interviews (phone + Skype) — I had an initial phone interview and then another over Skype.
Logistics coordination (visa/flight) — After that, the discussion shifted toward visa processes and flight scheduling.
Remote interview via Google Hangouts — In another similar setup, the interviewer joined from Boston and I spoke with them via Google Hangout after applying through the school
