I had a phone interview with HR where they asked a lot of very basic technical questions.

What struck me was that it felt strange to have an HR person asking for technical answers they likely didn’t know well enough to discuss deeply.

The conversation stayed at a simple level and didn’t feel like it was designed for a nuanced engineering evaluation.

I didn’t receive an offer, and the main thing that lingered with me was the mismatch between who was interviewing and the technical nature of the questions.
