I had a phone-interview-only journey for the Software Engineer role that felt either very laid-back or oddly dismissive, with no technical “gotchas.”

Phone interview (3 interviewers) — I spoke with three people who stayed resume- and behavior-focused, with no brain teasers or trick questions.

(Alternative experience) Phone interview with low engagement — In another similar phone screen, the interviewers seemed uninterested early on; it felt like the process was run out of obligation or to justify a low offer rather than to genuinely evaluate fit.
Outcome: I either continued feeling the call was relaxed with no hard questions, or I felt the screen was already decided; the takeaway is that phone screens ranged from friendly and straightforward to clearly perfunctory.
