I went into a Software Engineer process that was abruptly canceled right before my interview.

Shortlist/ongoing contribution — After being shortlisted based on my resume and cover letter, I started contributing to an open-source project (a classroom repo).
HR cancellation — Only about two hours before the scheduled interview, HR emailed that they’d found a match and closed the position.
Aftermath — I later received word that they’d “reward” contributions with apparel items, though they were not yet delivered at the time. Outcome: I didn’t interview and the role was closed; I was left with an abruptly cut-off process despite contributing.
