Medpace Interview Guide
Everything we know about interviewing at Medpace: the process stage by stage, what each round tests, compensation by level, and reports from candidates who interviewed.
Interviewing at Medpace
What the process looks like, and what Medpace is really testing for.
Medpace interviews are built around multiple stakeholder conversations, with frequent panel formats and a strong emphasis on communication. Based on the reported process steps, you may speak with HR and hiring managers early, then meet role stakeholders in panel style, and in some paths you also deliver a presentation tied to clinical or project updates.
What the interview loop tests is consistent across the roles covered in the guide: resume and background fit, behavioral competencies, and job-relevant technical depth. The extracted topic data shows SQL, statistical thinking, research methodology, biostatistics, AI, and research or clinical research associate role understanding as top technical areas, and communication skills, project management, and stakeholder management as top non-technical areas.
Expect scheduling and timeline variability. Across candidate reports, you may see quick callbacks, multi-week delays, and cases where feedback or next steps take weeks, including situations where a role moved to another candidate after the process stalled. The candidate-reported offer rate in the dataset is 0.0%, so you should focus on learning and performance rather than assuming outcomes.
The single most useful non-obvious pattern is that many steps are stakeholder heavy and communication heavy, and multiple paths include a presentation component that can directly simulate how you would explain clinical project updates or how you would communicate and organize information for others.
The Medpace interview process
5 stages, based on 500 candidate reports.
Recruiter or HR phone screen
30 min (reported for at least some paths)You should expect an initial call focused on resume, your background, and motivation, with HR and possibly Biostatistics team involvement in some paths. Some candidates also describe additional HR-only alignment on salary expectations and interest, so have those ready.
HR screening and/or hiring manager initial screening
Short conversation (timing not consistently specified)This step is described as conversations led by HR and the hiring manager to discuss background alignment with the job description. Expect fit-focused questions and behavioral prompts, and for some candidates this includes salary expectations and interest verification.
Technical and stakeholder panel interview
Multi-hour (reported for panel formats)You may be interviewed by multiple stakeholders in a panel format, including engineering or management stakeholders depending on the role. Reported technical focus includes system architecture, database design, and past engineering experiences in engineering-like roles, while for clinical and research oriented roles the topical emphasis includes research methodology, biostatistics, statistical thinking, and CRA role understanding.
Final round with management and/or HR follow-up
1-1.5 hours for at least some final panelsSome roles include a final management interview and a final HR conversation for logistics and expectations. In at least one reported final stage, there is a comprehensive panel lasting 1 to 1.5 hours, and in some paths a final presentation may be included.
Presentation step (where applicable)
10 min (seen in candidate reports for at least one process)You may need to prepare and deliver a presentation simulating real-world communication of clinical project updates to stakeholders. Candidate reports also describe short presentations that test communication and organization, so prioritize clarity, structure, and connecting your explanation to stakeholder needs.
