Interviewing at Cohesity
What the process looks like, and what Cohesity is really testing for.
You will be evaluated through a mix of technical interviews and behavioral interviews, with communication and stakeholder related skills showing up as recurring themes in the extracted topic data. Across roles, the process repeatedly checks whether your technical knowledge maps to real work you have listed, and whether you can explain your thinking clearly.
The technical core is consistent: Linux and storage expertise, computer networking fundamentals, virtualization concepts, and data structures and algorithms. You should also expect Python to appear as a programming language topic in the question set, and you will likely see algorithmic problem solving either directly as coding or through DSA style questions, with stakeholder management and problem solving also present as soft skill topics.
In terms of what happens in sequence, candidates generally go from initial screening and technical assessments to additional technical and case study or leadership-focused rounds, then a final assessment and compensation discussion. Candidate reports show multiple rounds, strict or detail-oriented questioning in some technical sessions, and an overall low offer rate of 1.8%, with difficulty skewing to medium and hard questions.
Even when the interview starts with resume and background questions, the extracted topics and candidate reports show a strong pivot into fundamentals-heavy technical areas like Linux, storage, networking, and DSA, so you should be ready to connect your experience to those specific domains, not just describe projects.
The Cohesity interview process
5 stages, based on 278 candidate reports.
Initial Screening
variesYou get an initial screening that reviews your application and includes a preliminary discussion of your background and fit. In at least one report, scheduling was very fast after recruiter contact.
Technical Assessments and Coding Assessments
variesYou complete technical assessments that focus on data structures and algorithms, with additional domain knowledge appearing for some roles. Candidate reports also describe coding assessment formats described as LeetCode-style or Codesignal-style, often taking around an hour per round.
Technical Interviews and Case Studies
variesYou have one or more technical interviews with peer and hiring manager involvement, covering hands-on systems and computer fundamentals plus DSA problem-solving. Case studies or problem-solving scenarios are also reported as a stage, and the topic data strongly emphasizes Linux, storage expertise, computer networking fundamentals, and virtualization concepts.
Behavioral and Stakeholder Fit
variesYou go through behavioral interviews that evaluate interpersonal skills and alignment with company values. The extracted topic data also includes engineering leadership, communication skills, and stakeholder management, so expect you to explain how you work with others while solving problems.
Final Assessment and Leadership Rounds, then Compensation Discussion
variesThere is a final assessment stage that comprehensively evaluates overall fit and readiness, and final interview rounds with leadership are reported. After interviews, compensation and benefits discussion occurs before an offer.
