I was contacted through a job posting source and the hiring process ended up dragging on for months—about nine—and it felt disorganized in a way that made it hard to stay confident.

Early on, I had to create a profile listing everything I’d done over seven years, and then I went through a lengthy battery that included a big personality assessment and other steps.

Midway through, they told me they’d changed their talent system, and I had to redo the whole thing—another profile and another personality test with 70-plus questions. I interviewed for multiple positions and was told I was still in consideration for a couple more, but every time I followed up I usually got silence. When I did get replies, they were short and vague—either that a store manager hadn’t reached
