My application process included a lot of specific materials up front, and that shaped the tone before I ever sat down to interview.

I had to submit GRE test scores, letters of recommendation, an essay explaining why I wanted to get into biostatistics, and a transcript of my classes.

When it came to what mattered most, I got the sense that the recommendation letters carried a lot of weight. The overall experience felt like a serious review of academic signals and motivation rather than anything conversational or technical during an interview setting. Looking back, what stood out was how much of the process was already decided through the paperwork I provided, not through extended back-and-forth conversations.
