I went into a more challenging, “standard” panel interview where the group included someone from HR and two people from the research team.

Before or alongside the interview, I was also asked to provide a writing sample, and I remember the flow ending with an offer letter.

The interview itself was clearly designed to evaluate my research experience—most of the questioning was about how I’d done research and what that experience looked like in practice. It felt like they wanted evidence, not just claims, so the writing sample plus the panel discussion worked together.

In terms of difficulty, it felt more intense than the casual professor calls I’d heard about—this one was more about proving my research background to a panel.
