Amherst, MAPosted Sep 2024 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

After the initial outreach, my process centered heavily on making sure the lab was the right match for me and that I could clearly connect my background to what the group was doing.

The discussion dug into my past research experience, and I had to explain how my interests and expertise aligned with the lab’s work.

At some point, I was also brought in to tour the lab and meet other staff, including the PI. I remember it feeling thorough rather than adversarial—more of a fit conversation where my questions mattered just as much as my answers. I ultimately felt the momentum of the interview was aligned with a “does this partnership make sense?” mindset, and the tone stayed constructive throughout.
