I got a quick callback for a phone screen and had a positive 30-minute conversation with someone on the team I’d have been working with.

The vibe felt friendly and grounded.

They then sent me a one-hour test. I submitted it over the weekend, and Monday at lunch I received an email saying they hired someone else. The timing felt strange because they’d sent the test on Friday, so it seemed like they might already have moved ahead.

Difficulty felt average, but the experience still stood out because of how abrupt it ended. I didn’t get an offer, and it left me with that uneasy feeling of putting in real effort while the decision may have already been made.
