I applied and then had an informal telephone call before an in-person interview with a manager.

The questions were competency-based, which I understood as their way of testing how I’d approached situations in the past.

Even though the structure sounded normal, the atmosphere didn’t feel right to me. The manager I met gave off a negative vibe, and it made me feel uncomfortable rather than engaged.

I didn’t get an offer. The process itself wasn’t complicated, but my main takeaway was that the way the interviewer came across mattered a lot for how the conversation felt.
