Rockstar Games Software Engineer interview experience

Got offer

Negative

San Diego, CAPosted Sep 2016 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

The interview experience itself stood out to me as pretty antagonistic, with strong personalities that made the process feel tense.

The team seemed to idolize extremely long crunch hours, and that mindset carried through the conversation. Even during the interview, I got the sense that a lot of people were burnt out and morale was low.

On top of the culture tension, the compensation details also didn’t work for me. They even asked me to take a 30k pay cut to join, and I declined. It wasn’t just a matter of fit on paper—how the interview was run and the day-to-day expectations they projected were what ultimately pushed me away.
