My interview was fairly casual, but it had an unusual element: two people on the design team joined online and HR was also present.

The conversation was a mix of getting to know me and talking through my fit for the firm.

What really defined the experience was that they told me they didn’t have an open position at the time, yet they still wanted to interview me. It made the whole process feel a bit uncertain and like I was speaking to an organization that was keeping the door open rather than hiring on a specific immediate need. Even though the interaction itself was not hostile, the lack of an open role meant I left without that typical clarity you’d hope for.
