I went through a structured, multi-stakeholder onsite agenda that spanned R&D, my potential manager, cross-department managers, and a final team discussion.

Paid to be onsite + R&D visit — no phone screen; I arrived onsite with a 1-hour R&D center visit.
Future manager interview — a 1-hour meeting with my future manager.
Cross-department manager interviews — a 1-hour interview with managers from other departments.
Team + project director phone follow-up — after onsite, I had a 1-hour phone interview with future team members and the project director. Outcome: No offer reported; the takeaway is that the evaluation was broad and hierarchical, covering both technical context and leadership fit.
