I had a single SDE-style interview where I was asked one software engineering question and also asked to explain a project I’d listed on my resume.

The interviewer gave a lot of hints while I worked through the problem and stayed pretty helpful the whole time.

There were also prompts related to other people’s moderation questions, which made the round feel a bit more interactive than purely evaluative. It was the kind of experience where the interviewer’s guidance shaped my path through the question.

Even with the support and the project discussion going well, I didn’t get an offer. My takeaway was that the interview emphasized collaboration and responsiveness more than raw independence.
