I interviewed for a Software Engineer role at GitLab where the technical evaluation hinged heavily on Ruby on Rails depth, and I was declined during the technical interaction.

Application technical questions — The application included technical questions.
Recruiter screen — A technical recruiter set up screening.
Technical interview (repo-based comments) — I was given access to a GitLab repository for a Rails project and asked to make comments.
Mid-interview clarification — After starting, I was told the role required extensive Rails knowledge and that my background wasn’t sufficient for what they needed. Outcome: I didn’t move forward; the takeaway is that Rails-specific depth seemed decisive.
