I went into my coding interview with a problem about a “jail break” style grid: I was given the prison grid dimensions and the indices of bars to remove, and I had to compute the maximum area of the hole afterward.

I took a few minutes to think and then approached it by sorting to find maximum gaps both horizontally and vertically and multiplying them to get the area. The interviewer asked about time complexity, and there weren’t any follow-up technical questions after that.

Then we moved into behavioral questions where I discussed several projects and my motivation. Overall, the structure felt balanced—one concrete technical challenge followed by a conversation about how I work and what drives my interest in the work.
