I interviewed for a Software Engineer role through a very laid-back two-step phone process focusing on my resume and long-term intentions.

Phone: HR screen — I spoke with HR to go over my background in a personal, resume-based way.
Phone: hiring manager — I then met with my prospective manager, where we discussed resume details and questions aimed at my personality and long-term plans. Outcome: I did not receive an offer, and the takeaway was that a calm, direct conversation can carry a lot of weight when the process is mostly fit-focused.
