Commonwealth Bank of Australia Software Engineer interview experience

BengaluruPosted Dec 2023 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

I experienced an interview that looked average on paper but felt harsh in scoring, especially around storytelling and how my code explanations landed.

On-call/one interviewer technical discussion — I was asked questions where I could answer correctly, but I felt the interviewer’s expectations were strict; I was told not to rely on stories.
Coding + explanation expectations — When I wrote the code and tried to walk through concepts with examples, I still wasn’t convinced by the interviewer’s evaluation. Outcome: I didn’t get an offer; even strong answers didn’t translate into better ratings due to communication and style expectations.
