My interview started in a way that immediately threw me off.

The interviewer told me upfront that it wouldn’t really be focused on me at all, but instead would center on a technical question—fine, except it wasn’t how it was described in the email.

He then went on a long, detailed rant about the technical topic and essentially filled most of the hour himself. By the time I had any chance to respond, the flow was already locked in, and I felt like I barely got a fair opening to speak. It was a strange mix of technical discussion and poor conversational balance, and it set the tone for how the whole thing went.
