My path to the onsite was a fairly typical sequence: one phone screen, then a coding problem over a phone/video call, and then the onsite itself.

Everyone I talked to during the day seemed nice and personable, so I expected the final conversation to close things out in a professional way.

That final round was with a VP, and it left me with a bad impression. The day had already been long and I’d been interviewing for hours, so I was looking forward to a respectful wrap-up. Instead, the VP came in tired and acted visibly disengaged. During the conversation it felt disrespectful—like the interaction wasn’t genuinely valued—and it even ended with a comment that they couldn’t remember what they wanted to ask me, so I could just leave.
