I went through a straightforward recruiter-to-HackerRank-to-manager flow where I was positive about the technical interaction but still got rejected.

Recruiter screening — A ~30-minute recruiter call.
Technical round (coding on HackerRank) — About 60 minutes on one or two programming tasks; I discussed optimization/testing strategies and felt the interviewer was kind.
Hiring manager interview — An additional manager round (in one loop described as a request for feedback that didn’t happen). Outcome: No offer; the takeaway is that even with a good technical interview, decisions could come quickly and without much feedback.
