1. What is a QA Automation Engineer at Zoox?
At Zoox, the QA Automation Engineer—often titled Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)—is not a traditional manual tester. You are a critical software engineer responsible for the reliability and safety of a full-stack autonomous mobility solution. Your work directly impacts the development of our robotaxis, ensuring that complex hardware and software systems perform flawlessly before and during public deployment.
This role sits at the intersection of high-fidelity simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and sophisticated data analysis. You will build the infrastructure that allows our engineering teams to move quickly without compromising safety. Whether you are developing Python-based emulators for sensors, architecting CI/CD pipelines, or creating dashboards to triage system-level failures, your work is foundational to the Zoox mission.
Expect a highly technical environment where your ability to write robust, scalable, and modular code is as important as your understanding of system-level failure modes. You will be challenged to solve problems in environments where edge cases are not just theoretical—they are the primary focus of our safety-critical mission.
