SLB Interview Guide
Everything we know about interviewing at SLB: the process stage by stage, what each round tests, compensation by level, and reports from candidates who interviewed.
Interviewing at SLB
What the process looks like, and what SLB is really testing for.
SLB interviews look like a pipeline that mixes recruiter or HR “fit” checks with multiple pruning technical stages. Across candidate reports and the extracted topic data, you should expect both timed or structured technical evaluation (coding, DSA, reasoning, and sometimes project or artifact based questions) and communication focused sessions such as interviews that emphasize how you explain your work.
What they actually test is consistent with the topic distribution: Python, algorithms and data structures, SQL, data analysis (EDA), predictive modeling, data preprocessing, and machine learning concepts show up at very high prominence in the collected question set. They also evaluate business analysis, accounting standards, and project or resume based technical interviewing, and they include communication as a prominent soft skill topic alongside problem solving.
In the reported process steps, you typically go through some combination of HR screening (initial or HR phone screening), group or collaborative exercises (group discussion or group discussion variant), online assessment and/or technical assessments, and one or more final rounds with technical leads and management. Timelines are described only qualitatively in the reports, with at least one “over a few weeks” flow, and multiple reports mention delays or lack of follow up even after early screens, so be ready for variable pacing after interviews.
Even when the early screen feels easy, multiple reports describe no clear next steps or silent delays, so treat every round as conditional and keep your preparation moving until you get explicit confirmation.
The SLB interview process
6 stages, based on 500 candidate reports.
Initial screening call
Not specifiedYou begin with an initial screening call to assess fit. Reports describe recruiter style conversations focused on your resume, motivation, background, and basic behavioral questions.
HR screening call or HR phone screening
Not specifiedIn some paths, you meet HR in an HR phone screening or HR screening call format. Reports describe a focus on your background, motivation to join, and basic behavioral questioning, sometimes with quick puzzles or an English check in certain accounts.
Online assessment
Over a few weeks in at least one reported flowYou may complete an automated online assessment that tests cognitive ability, logical reasoning, mathematics, physics, and programming skills, sometimes including a HackerRank or written technical test. Candidate reports describe OA/DSA style exams with mixed easy and medium questions and sometimes Java centered coding.
Technical assessments
Not specifiedYou may face technical assessments that include coding challenges or discussions on research papers, sometimes via third party platforms. Reports describe timed coding, DSA and OOP style fundamentals, and project logic or system and deep project emphasis depending on the stage.
Group discussion or group dynamics
Not specifiedYou may participate in group discussion or collaborative exercises to test team work and communication style. Reports include group dynamics stages with monitoring and eliminatory aspects in some accounts, and extracted topics emphasize communication and problem solving.
Final interviews and possible panel
Not specifiedFinal rounds can include behavioral interviews, sessions with technical leads and management focused on domain expertise and cultural alignment, and possible final panel interviews. Reports describe technical panel rounds, deep project walkthroughs, and sessions where both technical and behavioral questions are intertwined, including strong emphasis on explaining real artifacts and engineering decisions.
