This state agency's mission is concrete. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) designs, finances, builds, and maintains more than 11,000 miles of pavement -- specifically, US routes, interstate highways, and state roads -- across Indiana. INDOT also helps build and maintain Indiana's air, rail, public transit, and greenway systems. The agency operates through a central office, more than a half dozen districts, 30-plus sub-districts, and four toll road maintenance units.
