My first step was supposed to be a recruiter screen, but it ended up being conducted by a technical staffer.

Before we got into anything, I did the standard behavioral setup, then the conversation quickly pivoted into more technical territory.

They pulled on my resume and asked about REST APIs, and they also wanted examples of leadership from my most recent internship experience. Even though the opening sounded like it would be lightweight, the later questions made it feel like they were verifying both how I communicate and how well I can talk through real technical work.
