It started with a recruiter reaching out, and then I progressed through the usual sequence: a hiring manager interview followed by director-level discussions.

By the time I reached the director interview, the vibe had shifted for me.

I didn’t feel like the director conversation was heading in a positive direction. Something about the interaction left me with a bad feeling, and it colored how I viewed my chances even while I stayed professional during the discussion.

I didn’t receive an offer. The part that stuck was that my confidence dropped specifically at the director level, which made the final decision feel less surprising than it would have otherwise.
