I went through an ATS-style submission first, with a CV and cover letter plus role-specific questions about my skills and tool experience.

After that, I had a Zoom phone screen with the hiring department that felt clear and professional.

The third step was another Zoom discussion that they described as technical, and that conversation went well enough that I expected things to continue. Instead, my candidacy stopped, and what made it difficult was the feedback I received afterward—it was direct, personal, and felt very negative, bordering on unprofessional. I still felt positive about the institution overall, but I was relieved not to end up in that working relationship.
