I applied through the university portal and quickly moved from email follow-up to an interview meeting, then an offer shortly after.

Portal application + direct outreach — I applied through the UMN portal and emailed the professor listed there; I got a reply within about a week and then a phone call was arranged.
Meeting + fast offer — A meeting was set up next, and within about four days they extended the offer. Outcome: I received an offer in one case and didn’t in the other, but both reflected a fast, responsive process.
