I interviewed for a Research Analyst-style role through direct faculty/lab conversations, and it felt straightforward with quick, one-on-one discussions.

Email/1:1 faculty interview — I reached out to professors about open lab positions, then had a single one-on-one interview; in both cases, the offer was effectively made on the spot. The conversation focused on my background and fit for the lab work.
1:1 professor interview — I had an in-person one-on-one interview with a professor who asked about my previous experience and background, with no elaborate multi-stage process mentioned. Outcome: I ended up with an offer quickly; the interviews were mostly a direct fit check with the faculty and lab needs.
