I reached out to the PI by email, and the process then became an interview over Zoom with technical questions and motivation-focused questions.

The role itself felt pretty open-ended, so rather than a rigid set of predefined tasks, the conversation centered on why I wanted the work and how my thinking connected to it.

The process was straightforward overall. The main part that shaped the experience was the combination of technical questioning with an assessment of my motivation. I didn’t end up getting an offer, but I still felt the process was clear and direct.

Looking back, I remember feeling that having my own fellowship lined up would have sped up the recruitment timeline, and that affected how quickly things could move.
