For a summer research assistantship, the interview process was more involved than the informal lab chats I’d experienced.

I met two interviewers, a research associate and a research coordinator, and they asked general questions tied to my research experience, school and community involvement, and academic life.

After the interview, the hiring managers called my references by phone, and the decision took a while—about three weeks. The wait after already speaking with them was the part that tested my patience the most, but at least the whole process was thorough and grounded in my background.
