My interview was a tight 30-minute Zoom call with three interviewers: a lab director, my direct supervisor, and a director from a similar lab.

They asked mostly situational questions and kept returning to why I was interested in the job.

Even though everyone was friendly, the conversation felt like they were working through a set list of prompts more than having a deep, engaging discussion. I remember answering directly and trying to make my motivations clear, but the overall feel was a little procedural.

I didn’t receive an offer. Looking back, the experience taught me that a friendly tone doesn’t always mean the process is highly interactive—it can still feel like structured gatekeeping.
