I met them at a conference for a purely technical chat that ended up feeling extremely intense.

There wasn’t much small talk at all—the conversation went straight into coding.

The problem itself was a difficult graph task in a 1-hour slot. I didn’t move forward after that, and the whole experience felt hard in a very direct way: there was no time to ease in or find a comfortable rhythm.

Because this wasn’t a full structured process, it was harder to read as an “interview loop,” but the coding experience itself was sharply focused. The rejection came after that single technical interaction, and it reinforced how little margin for error I had when the bar was that high.
