Tripadvisor Software Engineer interview experience

New York, NYPosted Jun 2020 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

I interviewed on campus for a new-grad software engineer position, and the person I was paired with was a senior architect from the company’s Boston office.

From the start, the tone felt condescending and mocking, and the interaction didn’t feel like a collaborative technical discussion. Instead of staying on technical questions, they repeatedly tried to steer the conversation toward behavioral topics, and it felt like they were trying to shut down the technical part.

By the time the interview ended, I walked away with a strongly negative impression—less about my performance and more about how the process felt to be treated. I didn’t feel respected or encouraged to explore ideas, and that colored everything.

I didn’t make it to the next round.
