I was invited to complete an N-way set associative cache assignment that was framed as something to finish over a longer period—around 30 days.

They said I could reach out with questions, but when I did ask over the month, nobody responded.

I put in a lot of effort anyway—over 40 hours—because I treated it seriously and kept tweaking the submission as I went. By the time I submitted, I’d refined it and made it feel like the kind of solution that would meet a real bar.

The following workday, I heard back that they didn’t want to continue the interview. I didn’t receive an offer, and the combination of no responses to questions and an abrupt cutoff made the effort feel pointless.
