I went into what I thought would be a hiring interview for a principal software engineering remote role, but the conversation took an unexpected turn.

Instead of evaluating the work or discussing fit in a structured way, I ended up talking about a different senior role in another city with relocation.

It felt like my time was wasted because the topic wasn’t aligned with the position I’d applied for. That mismatch made the whole experience feel unproductive.

I didn’t receive an offer. What I carried away was the disconnect between what I expected from the process and what actually happened during the interview.
