The hiring-manager stage was a rough watch because I never seemed to have their full attention.

They were constantly distracted, which made the whole conversation feel less focused than it needed to.

I also ran into a lot of pushback when I brought up total compensation. It felt like they were steering the conversation away from higher-level decision-making, because I didn’t get pulled into a meeting with the person who could actually finalize anything. Between the distraction and how compensation was handled, the vibe wasn’t great, even though I was engaged and trying to be clear.
